Sensor A: It’s a type of sensor which can sensor the high beam light, and can sort out: street light, low beam light, high beam light, light from the house.

Sensor B: it’s a type of radar which can senor the vehicle from the facing way.

(1) Smart head light system

Smart head light system

The Benz launched the smart light system on the 2009 and did some updated recently.

In the 2009 the Benz put the smart head light system into the luxury vehicles.

This system is designed for reducing the traffic accident at the night, to prevent the accident for the pedestrians and vehicle. The pedestrian is main point to develop the system.

The main equipment:

1 infra-red light projectors

2 spot light function

(2) Intelligent headlight control

The system can control the headlight to switch from high beam to low beam.

The main idea is to increase the road safety by sensing the headlight head light, tail light, taillight and street light.

The working steps From those two designs above the camera is the main point:

However the Benz told us they used the infra-red night vision camera, the second design they did not say which kind of design.

We will do some research about the camera(sensor) in the next week.

Because in our system we need some sensor to detect the high beam, low beam, street light, tail light, using what kind of sensor is important part of this project.

I talk something about the Laws for the workshop some weeks before.
but just doing some summarizing:

(1) The customer can not allow to enter the workshop, if they injury it's your problem.


(2) Giving the customer invoice when the customer paid the bill. be careful the cash,
   
     the IRD will check it, some time the IRD will send some person to be an agency to
   
    check if you recieve money did not give invoice,  they will give you huge fine,
   
    becuase the IRD is thirsty rightnow.

(3) Every part invoice need order number so when you pay the bill, you check it's easy.

     some part supplier likes to charge you twice, or put wrong price on it.


(4) do not smoking in the workshop, the insurance company will not pay the complain

    if they find cigarette in the workshop.


(5) customer can not allow see the part invoice, because the differents between trade in
  
     prcie and retail price.


(6) before doing any job call the customer first getting the permit, if not, some
   
     customers they will say no, you just let them go.

(7) to those customer did not pay bill but want to drive the vehicle away. if he is now
    
     or has bad record before, pay the bill before giving the car KEY.


     To those good customer can give the car key and let them pay later or pay part of

     bill first and then pay the rest in later or several times.
   

     To the good customer you need be gently and careful their car, and if you lose one

      good customer, you lose dozen in future.

In this item I will talk about the WOF


How to apply the WOF

Last post the wof contain with two:

one is for workshop

two is for inspector

For the workshop is easier to get the wof certification

you need a big enough place,  and some wof equipemnt:

(1) light test, torch, lever, hoist.etc

To inspector:

(1)five years continously work experience: five years is too longer, and continously is
    hard.

(2)three  years work work experience and national certification level 4

    but you need find a work shop which give full time job and somebody is qualify to
    national certification  Level or over.

(3) NZTC, National -A-grade NZATC

To (3) you nearly impossible because the NZTA did not release any more, so you only can choice the Number 1 and Number 2.

within one years you can apply three times, if fail all of them, you need  to wait one year to apply.


each time you need pay 97.40 to apply and sign a form.


There are some laws for the inspector and if you had been charged, you will lose your inspector lisence. or stop to do the wof for the 12 month, for example speeding.

To aviod these, following all the laws about the WOF and NTVA laws, because the wof concered with safety.

To be memeber is not free, it need 700-800 bucks for membership for per years,

5 The organization still do the wof training, one day wof training, it' around 552 bucks, member fee is around 276 bucks (half price).

if you join the class and pass the exam you will get certification for prooving the wof train class.

6 if you are the member you can put some logo on you work shop to show the customer you are professional.

(2) NZTA

NZTA is the government organization is  to administer the workshop and wof:

For the wof the VTNZ can hold a test, prove you having the qualitification to taking the test for the wof.

Checking the wor inspection whether they did the illeagal  wof checking.

They will check for the two part for the wof one is the inspector and another is the work shop for the wof.

when you went the workshop they have two certification one is for the workshop, and another it's for the inspector, you need two certification to do the wof job.

there are a special wor inspector:

it's  called movable wof inspector they can went to another workshop to do the wof.


The vtnz will come to your workshop to check the workshop with wof authority from half years to two years.

Thirteen week for the waste collection 31st october

The waste in the workshop has three kinds:

(1) Waste oil

(2) Recycle metal

(3) waste rubbish


To a workshop it will generate a lot rubbish Like: old parts, waste liquid, waste rug, gloves, waste parts package, waste bottle, waste tyre, etc.

They need to be sorted out:

one is liquid type liking:

used engine oil, transimission oil, power steering oil, coolant, gear oil, etc . you can not put them to the drainage.

so what did you do?


In the workshop we used a blue color tank for containing the used oil. it will carry 300L.
when you see it is nearly full, call wasted oil collection company.

In the auckand area:

we choise the salters cartage

normally you need book time because the auckland city is bigger area, monday he went to manukau, tuesday went to northshore, etc.

The collection is free.


(2) Recycling metal

some metal can be recycling liking: suspension arm, disk rotor, radiator, startor, alternator, some motorcycle chassis.


 we used the 200L oil tank to contain the recycling metal, the recycling metal collection company will come here each month, they sort out the metal, and then weight it, and collection.


They will pay the worhshop money,  remember the aluminum and copper is getting higher price than the iron, steel.


Becasue the profit is quite higher in this market several metal recycle companys beat each other.

(3) waste rubbish

In the workshop there are a lot of rubbish differents from the home rubbish. you need special rubbish tank.

it's quite like the bin above but some time it will paint the company name and phone on it, and has plastic cover and with locker on it.


normally it collect one month one time, but you can make a decision whether need cancel this month or add more depend on the how much rubbish in the bin.

in the bin there is a sentence " do not put the rubbish over the edge" but we always did it, we want put more rubbish in the bin.

The price for the each time collection is 45 bucks.

(1) oil:

(2) Power / water/ telephone

we normally did not buy the engine oil from the parts supplier unless it's unusual one liking the 20w50, full synthetic BMW engine oil.


We buy the oil from the ELF and sinponic

The ELF oil is 300 bucks higher than the sinopec, but quality is good than the sinopec, In the workshop we used the:
15w40 for diesel 
10w30 for the petrol
20W50 for the oil vehicle after fifteen years older
Transimission oil (red color)

In the workshop you need three bottles 200L, each time you call the  oil supplier, they will drive the truck to deliver the 200l tank if you give they a call.

and they will send the person to check the tank lever two month each time.

ElF oil is expensive but the service is quite good.

(2) power/ water/ telephone

To a workshop with three hoists a month only need 200 bucks, even cheaper than a three bedroom house in winter will cost more.

In your home normally you have one telephone line for the phone and telephone:

however:

The workshop you need the two line or more:

two line for the main phone call only for one number but can using for two call in the same time.

one line for the fax

if you want save money you transfer for the telephone line to the internet line, the internet line is cheaper but some time has noisy in the phone call.


workshop need internet, so the workshop usual find a telephone company to do the package incuding the phone and the internet, one telephone line and internet line and internet 30G is around 180 bucks. and they normally will charge for the telephone call for every minute 7C to 10C depend for your plan.

Thirteen week for the advertisement 31st October

This week starts on the area for the advertisement:


Adverstisment:

(1) TV, radio.

(2) news paper, magzine.

(3) post,business card, logo on the vehicle.

(4) website

If you did any business, you will definitely do some advertisement, unless you are really good , and your customer is enough for you to survive at this moment ( The economical is more worst than the 2008)

so you need to do some advertisement, The effective and fast, powerful one is TV, however if you are not the bigger company, you can not afford the high price, because the TV is quite short time 10 seconds and 20 seconds, it's gone. and you need repeat advertisement several time a day, so making the company product in your minds.

To these workshop small one, radio is good choice, becuuase it's cheaper, and New zealander likes to hear radio.


The price:

I only reach the area about the website and yellow page.

The yellow page will give your a package

(1) yellow page

(2) when you surf intenert the yellow page will show your address, phone number,
     name.


Around 3000 plus GST, The yellow page will give the 1/10 to 1/20 on one page, and when you surf intenert showing on the website and they show your work shop in the place "ten to twenty".

The space in the yellow is more bigger, the price is more higher, and if type "north shore car repairing " dozens shop will show, but they have the direction and queue, if you want the first or in the front you need pay more.


If you will spend the money on the advertisement you need do proper way, do not put your sapce in the yellow too small, and position too back side on the internet. no body will pay attention on the bad advertisement.


The bill on the yellow page is six time a year.


If you did not have too much money, set up a website and the post on the road.

The website is around the 400-600 nzd, but need 20 dollars maintaining fee three month per time depend on which company you choose.

post board you only need spend one time is cheaper but good.

The cheapest way print hundreds the A5 or A6 advertisements to post the mailbox.
but the reuslt is quite worst, unless you giving the customer some free service or free wof, discount.

Some work shops will put the logo on the work shop vehicle and customise vehilce, it's good way.

Before one year the yellow will go to your workshop and bring a menu which package you will choose.

You can choose the space is small but the name on the website is front way, or the opposite.


becuase the work shop outside is bigger, some of them put the logo on the wall, that's another way cheap and effective.

Twelve week for the parts supplier three 24th October

There are some workshop they did not sell second parts or new parts, they repair it.

when you are in this case: the parts is too expensive either for now or second hand one.

These parts are:

(1) Head gasket machining

(2) Radiator repairing leaking

(3) Welding (most of workshop has welding but it is basic one, if you did welding job
     proporly, better sending to professional to do it)

(4) Exhaust pipe changing


most of workshop above they did not need do another job, just did the specialist.


Another special part supplier

(1) Auckland bearing

Auckland bearing only has one branch in the Northshore, 90% parts is concerned to the bearings, and the bearing for the wheel bearing, all kind of seals, and the lubrication,
insidie vehicle there are lot of bearing, the most difficult things it is  to measure the size, it has three dimension: high, wide , thickness. so the person need be very professional.

Milford  Auto Electrical LTD


it's company only focus on the electrical problem and rebuilding startor, alternator, those parts is expensive to buy the news and second one, so rebuild it's one choice for the customer. some time when we meet electrilca problem it took long to solve we just send the car to the  Milford electrical directly.


Takapuna Mufflers LTD


The takapuna Mufflers LTD only focus on the mufflers, they got their own workshop and can make any shape mufflers and exhaust pipe, some special one they knew the supplier and resouces.


To those special part supplier and workshop:

(1) They only focus on one part of vehicle repairing area.

(2) They have the top quality and professional

(3) They can rebuild some parts liking the startor.

To work shop:

One work shop can not every repairing about the vehicle.

One parts supplier can not cover every parts for the vehicle.

Second parts supplier

New zealand has five millions people in this country, however there is one million vehicle running on the road.

Some of them older than ten to twenty years, after ten years the vehicle starts to have a bigger problem, replacing the old parts became necessary.

If you change the inner rack end, or rack cover gasket, brake pads, the new parts is fine. however the startor, alternator, window control unit, engine, transmission, you better find the second one.

First choise

Pick  a part



most of the work shop they did not find the second hand parts in the pick a part, because it took a longer time, the place for pick a part is long way from the work shop.

Pick a part:

(1) still opening weekend (only close for four days whole year)

(2) old vehicle parts supplier

(3) parts are cheaper

(4) No return

The takanini and mangere are two my favourite pick a part. becuase they are bigger.

no new vehicle (around ten years to five years old)

if you do not spend too much time to pick parts:

one bigger second parts supplier:

The parts connection is not one company it has many subsidiary companys. like;

it contains most famous brand from japan, ameriacan, European.

The work shop I am working it is in the north shore, in the north shore there is a big part supplier:

The dodson is one company, only supplier japanese parts, very larger. I have been the warehouse hundreds engines in the stocks.

Character:

(1) no only selling the parts but also repairing the vehicle

(2) perchasing the second parts from the japan.

(3) second hand engine has warranty and perchase back your old enigne .

where did those parts supplier getting parts

(1) accident vehicle (New zealand)

(2) broken down vehicle (japan)

when they support parts they will mark the color on it, different supplier the color is different.

those second hand parts supplier:

(1) cheaper and faster than genuine one


(2) same second hand parts the price is different depend on the parts supplier.

From this week I will talk something outside workshop, I will divide the parts supplier three items.

(1) big parts supplier

(2) second hand parts supplier

(3) special parts supplier

In the New Zealand there are four parts supplier: BNT, Auto stop, Repco, Part master.
They supply from the small bolt to air compression, belt to cam belt kit, wipe brade to rack cover gasket, etc. Normally every part you need placed new one for the vehilce.

BNT is my favourite after market supplier, sales man friendly, professionally, helpful.

The repco opens from the monday to sunday, to those work shop which work saturday afternoon, the repco is only choice.

To me the partmaster I've only been there few time. I don't know why I always went to BNT, auto stop, repco, and then last chose the Partmaster.

The auto stop they have service they can repair some parts like hand brake cable the other three parts supplier can not do it.

They have their only character, I will explain detail in my assessment.

To be a good after market parts supplier:

(1) you need to be a good parts agent.
     Liking the brake parts the best one is bendix, only the BNT and auto stop saling it.


(2) good position
     Easy for every to access it.


(3) you need have warehouse.
     no matter your branch how bigger is it, you need a very large warehouse.
     How bigger is it? I have been BNT in the North shore bigger than unitec library.

How to buy parts if you come from the work shop you do not need pay the bill, just open an account, and then pay one month later. but you need tell them order number (usually is rego Number for the repairing vehicle), this helps for the checking the bill.

Eleven weeks for the invioce 17th October

After finishing the job, how to make a invoice it's very important.

The invoice contains two parts

The part one what job you did:

for example: service

put on the hoist, unscrew the sump plug, drain the oil, changing the new the sump plug wash, removing the oil filter, put the sump plug on, lubrication the  new oil filter, put the oil filter back, top up the engine oil (around 4 liter). checking every fluid and top up every fluid, put service stick on.

plus GST

The invoice need to have the GST No for the workshop

If the customer paid by the Credit card, eftpos card,etc, you need put the invoice and the stick paper together from the eftpos machine.

the labour is around 70-120 bucks depend the dealer shop or small workshop, but some workshop repairing electronic start from 100 bucks per hours.

the parts the work shop charged for the retail price from the part supplier, the workshop can get trade price from the part supplier. (10% t0 40% the trade price discount)

The dealer part supplier always stingy and always expensive. so if you job need genuine parts the invoice will be higher.

To let the customer accept the price, doing a good job and proper invoice are two main item expecially in such quite economical day!
